Life at DCLG, By Elisha Fields

“So would any of you like to work at DCLG for two days a week?” asked our supervisor James. DCLG? We all asked ourselves? What is that?

A few words from a mentor

Setting up a homework help-club in my community

Bianca has a dream “to help young people to realise they’re not all bad and to avoid all the negative stereotypes associated with the youth.”  She wanted to set up a homework help-club for young people and this is where Changemakers and The Youth of Today were able to help.

Feleishia's apprentice update

Hi everyone, another week at my work placement plus a day at changemakers. Well this week I was included in a meeting with some funders to try and get them on board and give us funding for our project. I found the meeting very interesting as I learnt a couple of new things myself, it felt good to be a part of the meeting as I felt very welcome and apart of the team. As usual I’ve been doing the normal routine which is office based work in the daytime and delivering sessions in the evening.

Apprentice Feleishia

Hi all, it’s Feleishia again. Well another week working with changemakers, and this week I’ve been up to a lot. I’ve been working at my placement as well as at changemakers and have had such a great start to the week. I’ve been writing up the session plans for my youth work sessions in the evenings and recruiting young people for a new project up and coming within my work placement. Much more will be said as more is achieved. Enjoy the rest of your week.

The Feminist Web Launch and Volunteering Hustings

Tuesday 2nd March was another busy day for me with the Youth of Today. I was asked to attend two events in London, the Feminists Web Launch and Volunteering Hustings.

Breakfast at No.10 Downing Street

The moment I board the train to London was the moment my fairytale began. I really couldn’t believe just what I was about to experience and how lucky I was to have that opportunity that I actually had to pinch myself a few times to make sure I was still in my own skin.

I got to a hotel, checked in and went up to my room. I was feeling very excited; I even found it hard to sleep at night. I woke up at 3am thinking it was early morning, and from then on I could not get any sleep.
