Youth leadership opportunities

Life at DCLG, By Elisha Fields

“So would any of you like to work at DCLG for two days a week?” asked our supervisor James. DCLG? We all asked ourselves? What is that?

Hafsa - my internship at The Youth of Today

Hello! My name is Hafsa, I am 19 years old and currently at college studying Business hoping to head off to university this summer.

I chose to do an internship with The Youth of Today, based at Changemakers, as I felt I needed practical experience as well as theoretical to pursue the career that I want; I am hoping to go into Events Management. Though this internship is primarily events based, I have also assisted in other areas and this has built my confidence greatly in a working environment.

Voluntary Internship opportunities at Changemakers

Changemakers is currently recruiting for 5 voluntary internship positions in its London office.

Who are Changemakers?

Changemakers unlocks the leadership potential of young people.

Whilst there are over 10 million 18-30 year olds in the UK, they are woefully under-represented in positions of power and influence. We think that many of our country’s biggest social and economic challenges could be overcome if we effectively harnessed the leadership potential of young people.

Looking for the experience of a lifetime? Then one of our volunteer internships could be the perfect thing for you!

The Youth of Today has 2 exciting volunteer internship roles which we are recruiting for right now!

A volunteer internship can provide you with:

  • an insight into both The Youth of Today (TYOT) and working in the charity sector
  • a chance a make a real difference to TYOT and the consortium organisation
  • a hands on experience
  • workplace skills
  • an opportunity to develop both personally and professionally

In addition, we can offer TYOT volunteer interns:

Setting up a homework help-club in my community

Bianca has a dream “to help young people to realise they’re not all bad and to avoid all the negative stereotypes associated with the youth.”  She wanted to set up a homework help-club for young people and this is where Changemakers and The Youth of Today were able to help.

The Feminist Web Launch and Volunteering Hustings

Tuesday 2nd March was another busy day for me with the Youth of Today. I was asked to attend two events in London, the Feminists Web Launch and Volunteering Hustings.

Breakfast at No.10 Downing Street

The moment I board the train to London was the moment my fairytale began. I really couldn’t believe just what I was about to experience and how lucky I was to have that opportunity that I actually had to pinch myself a few times to make sure I was still in my own skin.

I got to a hotel, checked in and went up to my room. I was feeling very excited; I even found it hard to sleep at night. I woke up at 3am thinking it was early morning, and from then on I could not get any sleep.
