Councillor Shadowing Poetry

Here is some inspiring poetry from a couple of our participants in Birmingham based on their shadowing experience with the City Council.

I was never the one for politics it just wasn’t my thing;
whenever brought up in conversation no interest did it bring.
Then one day I was asked from a friend of mine
to join upon youth of today; and without hesitation I joined away;
and to my surprise I liked it very much,
it changed my opinion on councillors and such.
For from what people told me and what I saw for myself

Were two different perspectives and viewing what goes on helped.
I realise that Britain’s broken and it’ll need something like a magic token’s to fix what needs to be done but for the councillors to fix it’s as hard as lifting a ton.

Taking part in youth of today; has changed me in a way for now I am able to say that I may become a councillor one day.

I follow in the Footsteps of the Greatest......

I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
X and King told me to walk,
But Benazir taught me to talk.
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
Yes I’m related to Kashmir,
Did I say my name means sapphire?
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
Politics says I need to make it,
While society says I need to fake it,
I follow in the footsteps of the Greatest,
Terrorism lets erase it,
Birmingham I know Salma’ s made it.
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
Obama says Yes we can,
While the middle east is still stuck in a western trance,
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
This paper in my hand told me I’m fired,
How come all the Bankers are still hired?
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
The prophets say we are all united,
But why are all my brothers fighting?
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
Voices that speak the truth fascinate me,
Whilst knowledge is what makes me,
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
My heart beats so fast,
Somehow my mind goes back to the past,
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
The war was a mistake,
It seems they still want to play the blame game ,
I follow in the footsteps of the greatest,
Freedom of Speech is what I preach,
A little power is all I seek ...

Does anyone else have some poetry they would like to share?
