Enter The Youth of Today music competition to win a recording studio session in an brand new recording studio in London on Saturday 27th February 2010.
You will also get the chance to have your music broadcast on The Youth of Today’s online show, celebrating youth leadership. Your band could appear on The Youth of Today webcast, alongside The Wire star Idris Elba and England footballer Gareth Barry.
This is the first ever webcast run by young people showing how the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. It will be three hours of music, film, dance and sport from celebrities and young people across the country.
Win your space on this day and help change perceptions of young people.
So here's what you have to do:
- Send us a short email (300-400 words) explaining how your music has helped create change in your community or helped change perceptions of young people
- Include in the email a URL link to a 3-4 minute film or mp3 (no longer please!) of your band’s music, on YouTube or facebook
- Please email all of the above to: studio.session@theyouthoftoday.org
The finalists will be posted to this website and on The Youth of Today Facebook Fan page before 18 March.

Terms & Conditions: The Youth of Today (TYOT) Music Competition
These are the terms & conditions for the TYOT/Prince’s Trust music competition and apply to the entrants of the competition organised by TYOT/ Prince’s Trust. By entering this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these rules.
1. Entrants are required to compose a short email (no more than 300-400 words) explaining how their music has helped create change in their community or helped change people’s perceptions of young people. Entrants are also required to include a playable Web link to an online video or music file, no longer than 4 minutes of their music. Entries that contain file attachments will not be accepted.

3. Each entrant, by entering the competition, licenses TYOT/Prince’s Trust (for itself and those authorised by it), the exclusive right to publish their creation for the purpose of communicating the message to the public. This includes broadcasting and internet use, and all other rights for the purposes of the Competition only.
4. Entrants agree to grant TYOT/ Prince’s Trust a non-exclusive licence to broadcast their entry across all media including any online platforms under their control. This licence does not affect Entrants moral rights and Entrants will retain full rights in their recording and composition in so far as they are the original author.
5. Entrants permit TYOT/ Prince’s Trust to edit or change entries in any way that is considered necessary for the purposes of use in the Competition and the broadcasting thereof.
6. Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene or offensive material. Any entry containing such material will be disqualified.
7. If the entry features any people other than the entrants, they should be aware they were being recorded and permission should be obtained from all involved for the entry to be submitted in the Competition. If it can be reasonably interpreted that the people are not aware of being filmed or are embarrassed in any way, the TYOT/Prince’s Trust reserves the right to disqualify the entry.
8. All submissions must be completely original; no samples or work of other artists can be used. The Competition organisers accept no liability if Entrants ignore this rule and Entrants agree to indemnify fully TYOT/ Prince’s Trust against any claims by any third party arising from any breach of this or any other rule.
9. By entering the Competition, entrants warrant that they have legal capacity to enter the Competition and agree to be bound by the Rules (i.e. that they are of sufficient age and mental capacity and intend to be bound by these Rules).
10. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust reserves the right to refuse any entry for any reason at its absolute discretion and to disqualify any Entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the Entrant has breached any of these terms and conditions. TOYT/ Prince’s Trust reserves the right to vary the terms of the competition, or cancel it, if it deems it necessary to do so, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
11. Only one entry per person or group is allowed. Competition entries must be made in the manner and by the closing date specified. Failure to do so will disqualify the entry.
12. It is a requirement of this Competition that Entrants must be aged between 13 and 19 on 1 February 2010 and live in England.
13. Entries are made at an Entrant’s own expense and risk. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust shall not be liable to reimburse any expenses incurred in making an entry.
14. Entry to the competition is via email and uploaded content to YouTube or Facebook. Entrants should note the TYOT/ Prince’s Trust does not accept responsibility for, and cannot return any competition entries. It is therefore advisable for each Entrant to retain a copy of their work where appropriate.
15. Winning entries will win a studio session and the chance to have their music/video uploaded to TOYT website and broadcast on TYOT online webcast. TYOT reserves the right to submit other entries for the webcast deemed by judges as “runners-up”.
16. Travel to and from the studio session (in London) and any additional events held by TYOT/Changemakers is at the entrants’ own risk and TYOT/ Prince’s Trust accepts no responsibility or liability in this regard. Reasonable travel expenses for successful Entrants invited to Events will be paid by TYOT/Prince’s Trust
17. The date of the recording session prize is for Saturday 27th February 2010 only. This date is non-transferable, so entrants must ensure they are available on this date to travel to the recording studio in London, in order to be eligible for this prize.
18. The judging panel will be selected by TYOT/Prince’s Trust and will include young people.
19. The decisions of the judges are final. Neither correspondence nor discussion concerning any decision shall be entered into. Unless specifically stated, unsuccessful Entrants in any stage may not be contacted by TYOT/ Prince’s Trust due to the significant number of entries anticipated. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust shall not be obliged to make use of any entry.
20. Successful Entrants will be notified in the manner and within the time specified on the Terms & Conditions. Failure to reply as specified in the notification within the time stated therein or TYOT/ Prince’s Trust being unable to contact the Entrant after reasonable attempts may result in disqualification and selection of an alternative winner.
21. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any Entrant entering the Competition or as a result of accepting any prize.
22. Successful Entrants may be requested to take part in promotional activities. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust reserve the right to use the names of winning Entrants, their photographs and audio and/or visual recordings of them in any publicity.
23. Any personal data relating to Entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection and will not be disclosed to a third party without the individual’s prior consent.
24. The description of the competition prize and selection process in the Competition literature or other medium is not binding and may be varied by TYOT/ Prince’s Trust. TYOT/ Prince’s Trust may make additional awards or prizes, but it shall not be obliged to make any award or prize if it considers it inappropriate to do so. Prizes are non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.
25. Closing date and time for entries is 5pm, Monday 22nd February 2010.
26. Acceptance of these rules is a condition of entry and receipt of an entry by TYOT/ Prince’s Trust amounts to acceptance of the rules.
