My names Feleishia Paterson-Scott and I’m one of the apprentices for changemakers. I have been working for changemakers since the beginning of January and have learned and gained such great experience already. My placement is with a youth organisation called Brathay and there my role is to plan sessions as well as deliver sessions. I am based in Brixton and my work varies from being in the office to out-reach youth work. So far I have been on a couple of residentials, the reason for the residential is to bring the groups we work with closer and teach them life skills which they will benefit from in the future. Its great when you attend a residential with the young people because that’s where young people come out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves by taking on big activities. The residentials so far have been very successful as the young people interact with each other and take part in every activity we throw at them, and some take the leading role as time goes on which is rewarding for them as they feel like they’ve achieved something and because some of the other young people listen to them and are influenced in a good way it’s also gives them that sense of power. Other than that I have just started to work with changemakers once a week where I will be helping and supporting the projects they have in store to run and so far the project are looking very promising, I can’t wait to get stuck in and start running them with. With the apprenticeship I attend college one day a week to gain my NVQ Level 2 in youth work which will help me within my placement as I face a different challenges everyday.
