Youth Leadership Fund recipient speaks on BBC WM
Ikeela, co-founder of Tru Street Dance, joined Joe Aldred live on BBC WM for what was an insightful interview in which she spoke about her successful bid for funding and much more.Though the interview is no longer available some of the highlights are as follows:
Having described how she found out about Changemakers, Ikeela goes into detail about impact they’ve had on the business.
“We’ve been with [Changemakers] for six months now and they’ve made a really big difference in terms of funding, doing application forms, getting the young people to write down their ideas”
Having never touched a funding form before this, Ikeela commented that the grant is empowering them all and that they’re “all learning together at the same time.” She continued:
“If your passionate about something Changemakers are there to help you and guide you”
Also on the agenda was the issue of leadership, in which Ikeela explained the link between dance and being a leader.
“Our slogan is creating positive moves through education, arts and life opportunities.” She continued “I am training eight young people from the company to manage the business [the dance studio and the eleven services that they provide]…so that they can become leaders within themselves”
How exciting!
Like Ikeela mentioned “young people are always looking for a place where they can go” and that is exactly what her business [Tru Street Dance] provides. Plus she “takes their hidden talents and puts them on the stage.” Bonus! Now that’s what I call a leader.
